Bharathanatyam Movie Review

This week, the highly anticipated family drama “Bharathanatyam” finally graces the silver screen. While it’s uncertain if it’ll win over audiences, it shares the spotlight with several other releases. The trailer hints at a dance-centric narrative reminiscent of K. Vishwanath’s classics. Dubbed “Kani Kaadu,” let’s delve deeper into this film.

Synopsis: Raju Sundaram (portrayed by Surya Teja Aelay), an aspiring director grappling with familial and financial woes, navigates a challenging journey. His mother’s illness and his girlfriend’s marriage ultimatum push him into questionable ventures. How did he end up in this predicament? What fate awaits his family? These questions drive the narrative forward.

Acting: Surya Teja Aelay debuts as the lead but falls short. While seasoned actors like Viva Harsha and Harsha Vardhan attempt to inject humor, the overall impact is lacking. Krishnudu’s return fails to leave a mark, although Temper Vamsi delivers noteworthy moments. Ajay Ghosh’s performance stands out with his signature style.

Technical Execution: Directed by KVR Mahendra, known for “Dorasaani,” technical flaws mar the film’s execution. Despite Surya Teja Aelay’s involvement in the screenplay, there’s a missing element. The ambiguity surrounding Mahendra’s directorial role raises questions. Although well-funded by producer Payal Saraf, production values fail to impress. While Venkat R. Shakamuri’s cinematography is decent, the film lacks a defining feature.

Critical Analysis: “Bharathanatyam” attempts to channel the essence of “Swamy Ra Ra” but falls short. It lacks the captivating elements that made its predecessor engaging, making it a tedious watch in theaters.

Rating: 2.75/5
